India’s First Innings Ends at 471 as England Wrap Up Day 2 with Ball in Hand

 India were dismissed for 471 in their first innings of the opening Test against England on Saturday (June 21, 2025), with skipper Shubman Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal all scoring centuries.

Gill (147) and Pant (134) stitched together a vital 209-run partnership for the fourth wicket after openers Jaiswal (101) and KL Rahul (42) laid a solid foundation with a 91-run stand.

Jaiswal crafted a composed 101 off 159 deliveries, laced with 16 boundaries and a six, while Gill anchored the innings with 147 off 227 balls, including 19 fours and a six.

Starting Day 2 on 65, Pant took charge of the innings after Gill’s departure, with the captain willingly playing second fiddle. Pant was the aggressor, smashing 12 fours and six sixes in his 134 off 178 balls—his seventh Test century, the most by an Indian wicketkeeper in the format.

India, resuming at 359 for 3 on Day 2, lost their remaining seven wickets for just 112 runs. Ben Stokes led England’s fightback with 4 for 66, while Josh Tongue also impressed, finishing with 4 for 86.
