In the Club World Cup, Marcos Leonardo scored the winning goal as Al Hilal beat Manchester City 4-3.

Al Hilal came forward to face Fluminense, the Brazilian team that defeated Champions League finalist Inter Milan.

Orlando Marcos Leonardo scored his second goal in the 112th minute, off a rebound, as Al Hilal beat Manchester City 4-3 on Monday night (June 30, 2025). The victory sent the Premier League’s strongest team out of the Club World Cup in the round of 16.

In a thrilling match at the Camping World Stadium in the United States, Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal took the lead three times, twice in extra time. Kalidou Koulibaly scored in the 94th minute to give Hilal a 3-2 lead. But substitute Phil Foden equalized again in the 104th minute.

However, Leonardo put a check on his opponents’ hopes in the end. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s header was blocked by goalkeeper Ederson, but Leonardo found the back of the net. He curled the ball into the net with his right foot as he fell near the left post.

The win set up a semi-final against Brazilian side Fluminense on 4 July. Fluminense had advanced by beating Inter Milan earlier in the day.

Leonardo equalised in the 46th minute. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 9th minute. Malcom scored in the 52nd minute, and Haaland equalised three minutes later to make it 2–2.

Manchester City looked close to winning the game at the end of extra time, but a tough challenge from the right-back denied them a chance. After the referees failed to award a penalty, coach Pep Guardiola stormed onto the field to express his opinion.

“We beat a very strong team. It seemed impossible yesterday,” Al Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi said.

“It’s really sad. There are no words to describe it. But we have to move on. The team is playing well. We need to rest, now we’ll go home and find time for that,” said Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

Fluminense beat Inter Milan 2-0

German Cano gave Fluminense their first lead in the third minute of the match, heading home from Arias’s pass on the right corner. The match was played in front of a capacity crowd of 20,030 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In a match played in 90 degrees Fahrenheit, Fluminense looked to have scored another goal in the first half. But Ignacio’s header was ruled offside.

Italian club Inter Milan, however, tried hard to equalize. Milan, who had 68% of the ball possession, had several chances to score. But they ultimately failed to convert them.

Also, although Milan initially saved shots from their opponents, no one was found to score on the rebound. Hercules scored another goal for Fluminense in stoppage time to seal the victory.

At the end of the match, Fluminense players were seen jumping for joy on the sidelines. The joy continued on the field, as everyone celebrated the victory by joining hands and becoming one.

After the game, Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez made an emotional comment in deep disappointment, saying, “It’s better for those who don’t want to be here to leave.”
