Russia’s largest airstrike on Ukraine: Another blow to hopes of ending war:
A Ukrainian official said on Sunday (June 29, 2025) that Russia had carried out its largest airstrike on Ukraine overnight, a blow to hopes of ending the three-year war.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 537 airstrikes. These included 477 drones and decoys, as well as 60 missiles. Of these, it said it had shot down 249 with guns and lost 226, possibly affected by electronic jamming.
The attack, which involved a variety of drones and missiles, was “the most massive airstrike” ever carried out in Ukraine, Ukrainian Air Force communications chief Yuriy Ihnat told The Associated Press. The strikes targeted areas across the country — including western Ukraine, far from the frontline.
Poland and its allies have put the Polish Air Force on alert to protect their airspace. The Polish Air Force said Sunday that planes have been scrambled to provide cover.
Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said one person was killed in the drone strike. In the Cherkasy region, six people were injured, including a child, according to local governor Ihor Taburets.
