A former Chinese PhD student, Zhenhao Zhou (28), considered the UK’s most notorious sex offender, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 24 years in prison. While a student at University College London (UCL), he lured women to his flat, promising to study or have a drink, drugged them and raped them. He filmed the incident on hidden cameras, The Guardian reported.
Zhou was convicted in March 2024 of raping 10 women — three of whom were from London and the other seven were in China. Police suspect that he may have more than 60 victims between 2019 and 2024.
Not an exactly More than twenty women have come forward since his verdict. Police have found 58 rape videos on his devices and are working to identify other women who appear in them. Many of the videos feature Chinese women clearly begging, “Please don’t do this,” and “I’m begging you,” before appearing to faint.
In one video, a young woman pleads: “I really don’t want to… please don’t do this,” to which Zhou responds: “Don’t push me, it won’t work… this room has good sound insulation.”
Zhou fled China after the first case was dropped after the Metropolitan Police first reported him on November 18, 2023. However, Zhou was arrested when he returned to the UK in Jan-2024. Police searched his flat and found a box containing designer items and “memorials” from the victims.
Zhou, who appeared suave in a suit and glasses, gave moving testimony about his taste in disgusting pornography. “I like her quiet, still,” he said. “I like women sleeping, but I couldn’t find any,” he replied simply.
He was charged with 28 offences in total — 11 counts of rape, house arrest, secret videotaping, videos containing explicit pornography, and possession of drugs used for sexual offences.
“Thanks to the extraordinary work of our police and prosecution teams, this brutal offender is no longer able to harm others. We hope this will provide some comfort to the women who have been affected,” he told The Guardian.
The police also made an appeal — “If any women suspect they have been harmed by Zhou, please come forward.
